Welcome
Thank you for your interest in The Andrews School. We are pleased that you are considering our program and appreciate the time you have spent on our website. We invite you to look over our catalog and we hope you will find a program that meets your needs. Founded in 1990, The Andrews School is owned and directed by Linda L. Andrews, CMT, FAAMT.Why we are different in our educational approach: The Andrews School provides a unique and effective educational experience. There is a careful balance between academics and practicality. Education is taken seriously in our intense and comprehensive training. No shortened or partial training is offered. Students are tested consistently throughout the course. Our instructors are among the best in the nation.
Admission Policy: Prior to
admittance, students will demonstrate through pre-enrollment tests or
counseling the ability to satisfactorily complete a program in the
time allotted. A medical transcription course pre-enrollment test is
online under the “How To Enroll” section.
Previous
Education Credit: Each student completes all parts of our program,
for the best quality control. Credit is not given for previous
training or work experience. We do not offer shortened courses for
those with previous medical education or experience. Medical
professionals will be able to complete certain portions of the
program faster due to previous education and work experience.
Class
Schedules: Courses are scheduled on an open-entry basis and are by
distance learning. We enroll students throughout the year as openings
are available.
Completion Time: Courses take approximately
one year to complete. Course time may be extended at the discretion
of the Director, as long as the student is making consistent and
satisfactory progress. There is no additional charge if course time
is extended.
Grading, Conduct, and Certificate of Completion:
A certificate of completion will be issued following satisfactory
completion of all program materials including any required remedial
work. There is no additional charge for required remedial work. Those
students not meeting minimum requirements may be placed on academic
probation. At the discretion of the Director, students may be asked
to repeat unsatisfactory work and complete remedial assignments in
order to help them develop marketable skills. If, at the end of the
probationary period, the student has not progressed satisfactorily,
he/she may be academically terminated. Disruptive behavior may result
in immediate termination, at the discretion of the Director.
Cost
of Course and Payment Plans: The entire cost of the program includes
tuition as well as valuable books and materials. The total cost is
$3,800. Many students are able to pay in full at the time of
enrollment. We greatly appreciate your selecting that option if it is
available to you. The minimum down payment is $1,000; the recommended
down payment is $1,500. A 24-month payment plan is available. No
interest is charged.
Financial Assistance: We work with
several agencies such as Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Vocational
Rehabilitation Services, and various private job placement programs
from across the nation. Financial assistance (Pell or Guaranteed
Student Loan Program) as such is not available at The Andrews School.
We have chosen to assist our students by offering a payment plan with
no interest.
Returns Policy: Defective items will be replaced if returned to us in the original packaging with accessories free from scratches, writing or wear. Items showing signs of misuse are excluded, according to the discretion of the Director. Defects after 30 days from purchase are no longer eligible for exchange. Items returned must be shipped via traceable and insured method.
Refund Policy: There is no refund for equipment, books, and materials upon receipt by student. Student is expected to have completed the course within one year and will not be entitled to any refund after one year from enrollment date.
Termination of Course, Rejection, or
Canceled Class: Applicant shall be entitled to refund of all monies
paid. All equipment, books and materials must be returned to the
school unopened, in usable condition. School will pay cost of
shipping and handling in the case of rejected applicant or
discontinued class.
Three Day Cancellation: All monies paid
by an applicant will be refunded if requested within three days after
signing an enrollment agreement and making an initial payment.
Special Cases: In case of documentable circumstances that make it impractical to complete the course, the school shall make a settlement which is reasonable and fair to both.
Minor Age Students: Any student who is of minor age will require a guarantor who will be liable to The Andrews School for the fees, tuition, charges, and etc., agreed to if student should default in any payments thereof.
Withdrawal After Delivery of Module I but Prior to Delivery of Module II: For training termination within one year from the enrollment date, a refund of 75% of tuition, minus $150, will be made, not including cost of equipment, books, and materials.
After Delivery of Module II but Prior to Delivery of Module III: For training termination within one year from the enrollment date, a refund of 50% of tuition, minus $150, will be made, not including cost of equipment, books, and materials.
After Delivery of Module III but Prior to Completion of Course: Student is responsible for paying $3,800.00. For training termination, student is not entitled to a refund.
Changes in Course Catalog: The Andrews School will attempt to implement the information in this catalog as it is printed. However, changes or deletions of courses offered, instructor, cost of tuition, class times etc., may be necessary and will be made at the discretion of The Andrews School with the approval of the proper authorities.

Course Policy and Time
Requirement for Medical Transcription: Students spend from 15 to 30
hours a week on transcription practice and reading assignments,
depending on their ability to cover the material effectively. We
allow 4 months for students to finish Module I, 5 months for Module
II, and 3 months for Module III. The course is designed to be
completed within one year.
Please note that students must
turn in transcription work (not just terminology tests) to be graded
every month in order to remain as a student. We are able to extend
the time for any student who needs additional time, as long as the
student continues to turn in transcription to be graded every month
and is otherwise meeting course requirements and making good and
consistent progress. Students must maintain grades of C or higher to
stay in the program. Grades of B and lower may require remedial
assignments, at the discretion of the Director.
Disciplinary Actions: At the discretion of the Director, students failing to meet the course policy requirements will be subject to the following disciplinary actions.
1.a. If a student has failed to
submit the required assignments by the given deadline once, that
student will be sent a written notice that they have not met the
course policy requirements and that student will be assigned a new
deadline.
b. If a student has failed to make monthly
payments for the last 45 or more days as listed in the contract,
except as otherwise arranged with the Director, that student will be
sent a written notice of balance and a deadline to get caught up on
missed payments.
2.a. If a student has failed to
submit the required assignments by the given deadline more than one
time OR if a student receives a D, F, or Fail on an exam or
assignment, that student will be placed on 30-day academic probation.
b. If a student fails to make monthly payments during more than
one 45-day period OR if a student fails to meet the payment deadline
given in the first deadline, that student will be placed on financial
probation and given a deadline to get caught up on missed payments.
3. If, any time during or after the 30-day academic
probation, a student has failed to submit the required assignments by
the given deadline more than two times OR if a student receives a
second D, F, or Fail on an exam or assignment, that student will be
sent a counseling note/notice of pending termination.
4.a.
If, after a student has been sent a counseling note/notice of pending
termination, the student fails to submit the required assignment by
the given deadline OR receives a D, F, or Fail on another exam or
assignment, the student's enrollment will be terminated and a notice
of termination will be emailed to the student.
b. If a student
fails to make monthly payments during another 45-day period after
being placed on financial probation OR if a student fails to meet the
deadline given when the financial probation notice was made, the
student's enrollment will automatically be terminated with no further
notice required.
Exceptions and Additions to Disciplinary Actions:
1. An "exam or assignment"
as noted above pertains to any assignment which was given a specific
deadline by any instructor or other staff member OR which is already
listed in the course policy requirements AND that requires the
student to submit a written assignment by email for review or
grading, including but not limited to: transcription exams,
supplemental exercises, supplemental exams, and final exams.
2.
A student may also be placed on behavioral probation or the student’s
enrollment may be terminated at any time without further notice
required at the discretion of the Director if the student is being
disruptive on the school’s private message boards, failing to
follow requirements for participation on the private message boards,
or being inappropriate and/or vulgar and/or argumentative by phone or
email with any instructor or staff member. Students on
behavioral probation will follow the same requirements as students on
academic probation, as listed above, and will also be required to
correct any problematic behavior during the remainder of the course.
3. A student who fails the first exam of the course in either
program will not automatically be placed on academic probation.
However, continuing to fail assignments after the first exam will
result in academic probation.
4. All notices listed above
will be sent by email. Students are expected to communicate
regularly and appropriately with the school, and computer issues will
not excuse a student from meeting a deadline. Students need to
contact the school office before a deadline if there will be a
problem meeting it, and if appropriate, the school may extend the
student's deadline at that time. Otherwise, the student will be
expected to meet the deadline previously given by an alternate means
if necessary. Expected turnaround times for emails from the
school are posted on the private message boards for students to
review, along with instructions on what the student should do if an
email from the school has not been received in the given turnaround
times. Emails not received by the student will not excuse a
student from meeting a deadline if the student does not contact the
school as instructed in the aforementioned instruction about
turnaround times.
5. School-approved sabbaticals or
extensions will not count against a student for meeting original
deadlines.

of termination will be emailed to the student.
